Baylee Littrell Opens Up About His ‘American Idol’ Journey: “It Was Hard to Fit In”
Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys legend Brian Littrell, may have grown up around music, but his time on American Idol wasn’t as smooth as some might expect. The 22-year-old singer recently opened up about his experience on the show — and how tough it was to find real connections.
Fame Comes With Assumptions
Baylee admitted that coming from a famous family made it harder to bond with other contestants. “A lot of people already had their minds made up about me,” he shared. “It wasn’t easy to make friends at first.”
But over time, those walls started to come down. “It took a while, but we eventually saw each other for who we really were,” he added. One of the strongest bonds he formed was with fellow contestant Olivier Bergeron, who also exited the competition the same night. The two are now close friends.
Stepping Out of His Dad’s Shadow
From day one, Baylee was determined to make a name for himself. While having a music icon for a dad opened some doors, he said it also created challenges. “I didn’t want to ride on anyone’s name,” Baylee explained. “I wanted to show people who I am as an artist.”
He even performed one of his dad’s songs during the show but made it clear that he wouldn’t have chosen any Backstreet Boys hits if he’d stayed longer in the competition.
Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead
Baylee shared that while he won’t be doing another reality singing competition anytime soon, he’s taking the experience as a learning opportunity. “I wish I went in with more confidence,” he said. “But I’ve grown a lot from it.”
Now, he’s focused on his own music, including his original track “Hey, Jesus,” which he performed on Idol. He also expressed admiration for his fellow contestants and plans to cheer them on from home.
What’s Next for Baylee?
Though his Idol journey ended earlier than he hoped, Baylee’s not slowing down. He’s currently working on new music and plans to release more original songs soon. With his talent and drive, he’s well on his way to building his own legacy — no boy band backup needed.
