“Canada Bans Australian Media Outlet Over Controversial Jaishankar Interview”

Canadian government led by Justin Trudeau has banned Australia’s prominent news channel MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said the move highlighted the Trudeau government’s “hypocrisy” towards freedom of speech.

Canada has blocked Australian media from broadcasting an interview by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar – a move widely criticized. In a press release hours after the ban, The Australia Today expressed its sincere gratitude to other news outlets for their support and stressed that it remained committed to promoting freedom of information and the right of audiences to access diverse perspectives. New Delhi condemned Ottawa for the move, saying Canada’s move smacked of “hypocrisy” against freedom of speech.

“Despite these limitations, your unwavering support has been a beacon of strength for us. Whether it’s sharing our coverage on other platforms, voicing concerns about #PressFreedom, or simply offering encouragement, every action has made a difference. We deeply appreciate the #solidarity shown by our community and its commitment to freedom of information and the right of audiences to access diverse perspectives,” Australian media said in a report about its documentary on X.
“We remain steadfast in our mission to bring important stories and voices to the public undaunted by these obstacles. The overwhelming support we have received is a powerful reminder of the importance of #freepress and we will continue to strive for #transparency, #accuracy and the right to tell the stories that it matters,” the press release said.
India on Thursday slammed the Justin Trudeau government’s “hypocrisy over free speech” after Canada blocked an Australian media outlet hours after it aired a press conference by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Australian counterpart Penny Wong.
