Christie Brinkley Opens Up About Painful Marriage to Peter Cook in New Memoir

Supermodel Christie Brinkley is speaking out about one of the hardest chapters of her life — her marriage to architect Peter Cook. In her newly released memoir Uptown Girl, Brinkley calls the relationship “one of the most tormented experiences” she’s ever gone through.

Brinkley met Cook in 1996, shortly after her divorce from Richard Taubman. Although he wasn’t her “type,” she decided to give him a chance. The two quickly got married that same year, partly because Brinkley was looking for a strong father figure for her son.

Together, they built a family — Cook adopted her son Jack, and they had a daughter, Sailor, in 1998. But by 2006, things took a dramatic turn. Brinkley found out about a shocking betrayal that led to their split.

In a heartfelt section of her book, Brinkley describes a painful moment when she was told — in public — about her husband’s alleged affair with an 18-year-old. She says she immediately recognized the truth on his face. That moment, she says, changed everything.

Despite keeping quiet in the media for years, Brinkley shares how the long divorce and custody battle affected her. She eventually won full custody of both children.

“I’ve never liked talking badly about Peter in the press,” she says, “but I wanted to finally share my side, my truth.”

This honest account shows the strength it takes to move forward — and the courage to speak out, even years later.
